Godwin Developments has submitted plans for a 692-unit student accommodation scheme in Nottingham city centre on the site of a former Royal Mail sorting office. The plans would see the current sorting office on the corner of Bath Street and Cowan Street demolished, with the new scheme varying in height from 12 to 15 storeys. Named the Bendigo Building, the scheme was designed by architect RG+P and consists of a mixture of modern studio apartments; four, five and six-bedroom clusters; and disabled studio rooms. The scheme would also include a residents' lounge and reception area, gym, study and games rooms. Matt Chandler, development director at Godwin Developments, said: “With the number of full-time students expected to increase by approximately 28 per cent in the next few years, there is a clear requirement for more dedicated student spaces where young people can live, study and play together."
