Grand Rapids Griffins announce 2021 team captain Updated Feb 04, 2021; Facebook Share Brian Lashoff was 18 years old when he made his Grand Rapids Griffins debut back in 2009. Lashoff, a defenseman, played on Grand Rapids’ 2013 and 2017 Calder Cup championship teams, and he competed in his 500th Griffins game this past March 11 against Iowa, which proved to be the season finale due to the coronavirus outbreak. Only Travis Richards has played in more games (526) for the Griffins. The Griffins will be leaning on Lashoff’s experience and leadership in what is expected to be one of the AHL’s most challenging seasons. The Griffins announced Thursday that Lashoff has been named the team’s 2021 team captain.
