December 23, 2020 Granville, Iowa — A grove was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, near Granville. According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, at about 1:35 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a grove fire at 4748 460th Street, about a mile east of Granville. The chief says the fire department saw the grove on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire. Kellen says no injuries were reported, and the fire department was assisted by the Paullina Fire Department. He says the occupants had burned some trees about three weeks ago, and the burn pile must have stoked up with the high winds and started the grove on fire. He says the fire was mostly limited to the undergrowth, and damage was limited, but they were concerned that the fire might get into a nearby field of corn stalks. He says luckily, they were able to keep that from happening.
