Priyanka Shetty's emotionally charged, didactic #CHARLOTTESVILLE is a one-act reconfigured from an ensemble play to a one-actor show, with that one actor being the playwright. It's a reaction to the events of August 2017, in Charlottesville, Virginia, where a white nationalist rally led to the death of a counter-protestor. Shetty, who was living in Charlottesville at the time, interviewed several of what she calls "survivors" of the counter-protests. The characters she portrays include herself as interviewer and narrator, five composite characters with different experiences of the protests, and the mother of Heather Heyer, who died when a car ran into a crowd of counterprotesters.
