Healthy Michigan reaches record enrollment during COVID-19 Mansur Shaheen | Dec 29, 2020 Share this: The Healthy Michigan Plan is now providing health care coverage to over 850,000 Michiganders, a record number announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Dec. 17. “Every Michigander deserves quality, affordable health care, especially during a pandemic,” Gov. Whitmer said. “As we continue working to eradicate COVID-19 and with the Affordable Care Act under constant attack in the courts, it’s more important than ever that we protect the Healthy Michigan plan and ensure health care for Michiganders across the state.”
The state’s Department of Health and Human Services has made multiple changes this year that allow for more Michiganders to be enrolled. The MDHHS streamlined the application process, halted the termination of plans and froze premium costs for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
