Heavy thunderstorms knock out power for 8,000 Rhode Islanders, flood streets

Around 8,000 Rhode Island customers were without power Saturday — most of them in Cumberland and Lincoln — according to utility National Grid, after some heavy thunderstorms rolled through mid-afternoon.
At 5 p.m., there were 6,893 electrical customers without power in Providence County and around 4,500 in outages in Cumberland and Lincoln, National Grid's outage map said.
