Overall school attendance in the borough was 94.6 per cent after pupils returned to classrooms in March – above the national average of 90 per cent. Most children were unable to attend schools from January 5 as part of a national lockdown designed to stop the spread of Covid-19. Face-to-face lessons for all pupils finally resumed on March 8. The Department for Education figures, which were for March 25, were presented in a report to the children, education and safeguarding committee on Wednesday.
