The Higher Education Commission will be set up by 2021, said a government official.
A top government official has confirmed that the Higher Education Commission, which is set to replace autonomous bodies like University Grants Commission (UGC) and AICTE, will be set up by the next academic year.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the recently approved education policy by the Union Cabinet, recommended setting up of the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) as a single overarching umbrella body for higher education, excluding medical and legal education.
