Highland celebrating Black History Month with recognitions Community Content FREEPORT — Highland Community College is offering recognitions and events to celebrate the contributions of African Americans throughout history during Black History Month. Many groups on campus, including the Diversity Committee, the Clarence Mitchell Library, the Theatre Arts Department, and the Student Senate, have events and activities planned throughout February. During February there will be once-a-week educational emails highlighting major African Americans and their contributions in various subject areas. The events are courtesy of the HCC Diversity Committee and students/faculty on campus. The Clarence Mitchell Library has a virtual book display with many titles available in book, e-book or audiobook format.
