SINCLAIR INLET — Pulling away from its slip at the Port Orchard Marina on Tuesday morning, the historic Carlisle II looks and sounds much like it always has — the wood floor in the passenger seating areas still groans underfoot and the roar of the engine drowns out most attempts at conversation. On the surface, Kitsap Transit’s 104-year-old wooden ferry still has some creaky joints. But everything is running smoothly under the hood following a recently completed $1.3 million renovation meant to keep the Carlisle on the water for another decade. “It’s been operating through World War II and every day since," said Kitsap Transit executive director John Clauson. "It’s nice to have it back in the community,”
