LABOUR Holyrood hopeful Francesca Brennan says urgent action is needed to replace Greenock Prison. She hit out after the Telegraph revealed how scores of cells at Gateside are not in use because they are deemed no longer fit for habitation. This follows a decision to shelve any plans to build a new prison until at least 2026. The saga has been rumbling on for a decade after the Scottish Government bought the former Greenock High School site off Inverkip Road, cleared the land and earmarked it for a new jail to replace the crumbling HMP Greenock. They then put the plan on ice.
