More than 100 people gathered along Clay Street in downtown Montgomery on Wednesday afternoon for the unveiling a mural commissioned by the Embrace Alabama Kids nonprofit. Across the 936 square feet of what has been a plain side of a vacant downtown building now depicts diverse faces representing Alabama's youth and families. The goal of the permanent Montgomery mural, and another mural that will travel across the state, is to bring awareness to the nearly 30,000 incidents of child abuse, neglect and abandonment reported in Alabama each year. "It is a call to action to put our kids on a brighter path forward," Kristin Alberda, the nonprofit's senior vice president of operations said at the event.
