suffering the gulf coast. can you believe it's been six months since that blast happened killing 11 workers? that blast led to the worst environmental disaster in u.s. history. cnn's rob marciano went back to the reach ton see where things stand now. what do you think, rob? >> reporter: they have done a remarkable job. considering all of the things you've said, kyra, and that there's almost 5 million barrels of oil that were spewed into the gulf of mexico during that three-month period. it's been three months now since the wellhead has been capped, so they have a handle on things and have pared things down a bit. they have under 300 boats on the roster but there is still oil out there affecting the shoreline and it needs to be cleaned up. that's you new admiral in charge. aerial tour, and we're getting on a boat.
