KAFF News NAU Wins The Men’s Cross Country National Championship Monday The NAU Lumberjacks men’s cross country team won another national championship Monday in Stillwater, Oklahoma. NAU finished with 60 points, which is the lowest score in a national title race since 2005. Conner Mantz from BYU was the individual champion, however for NAU, freshman Nico Young finished fourth, senior Blase Ferro was sixth, sophomore Abdihamid Nur was seventh and senior Luis Grijalva was ninth. This is the fourth national championship for NAU in men’s cross country in five years. The Jacks finished 27 points better than Notre Dame and 82 points better than host Oklahoma State. Defending national champion BYU was seventh and Big Sky rival Southern Utah was ninth. The NAU women’s team finished 11th in the women’s national meet. NAU was in the top-five for most of the race, then tailed off toward the end. Junior Taryn O’Neill finished in sixth place for NAU. BYU won the team national title in the women’s race.
