We’ve just made it through the end-of-year holidays, but there are no shortage of them to come. And many are dubious, like “National Puppy Day, National Pancake Day, Potato Chip Day and Ice Cream Day.” If you’ve ever wondered how faux celebrations like those listed at Holiday Insights make headlines, former NPR “Planet Money” co-host and current NPR “Morning Edition” co-host Noel King said on a 2017 episode of the podcast, “There is a very real business machine fueled by these made up holidays. PR people use them to get companies television time.”
