Punch Newspapers Sections LARA ADEJORO Published 14 March 2021 A new study has revealed that the Ebola virus can be found in the semen of survivors, six months after infection. The researchers also found that longer persistence of the virus was significantly associated with severe acute EVD and older age. The study, published in an open-access peer-reviewed journal, PLOS Medicine, was titled ‘Persistence of Ebola virus in semen among Ebola virus disease survivors in Sierra Leone: A cohort study of frequency, duration, and risk factors.’ The study was led by A. E. Thorson of the Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research, World Health Organisation.
