80-year-old planes offer glimpse into World War II history July 22, 2021 8:37 PM Anna Hansen Updated: JANESVILLE, Wis. — Sometimes a look into history means tilting your head towards the sky. Two World War II planes landed at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville today. The B-29 “Fifi,” and the b-24 “Diamond Lil” are part of the Commemorative Air Force’s “Airpower History Tour,” traveling the country to bring the past to life. The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit made up of volunteers who spend their time maintaining the 80-year-old planes. Maintaining such relics isn’t exactly easy, but according to Commemorative Air Force Colonel Phil Pedron, the effort is a labor of love.
