When discussing vehicle accidents, we often focus on the environment around the collision, as well as any outside influences or distractions that may have swayed a driver's course. However, the movement before an accident (and likewise, how people respond to it) can also play a role in fatal crashes. From 2017 to 2021, of the 4,904 deadly vehicle crashes throughout the United States, 1.8% were the direct result of a failed attempt to pass or overtake another driver -- and in some states, like ND, this number is even more jarring.
