Friday's trade deadline passed with the vigor of a passing tempest, as it was one of the more memorable deadlines in recent history. Though a handful of deals were made on Thursday evening, the Friday afternoon transactions left some baseball fans in the center of the storm. Perhaps most notably, the Chicago Cubs traded away some core players before the deadline, many of which were the remaining members of the 2016 World Series championship team. As of Sunday evening, the Cubs are 12 1/2 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers, with a 51-56 record good for fourth place in the National League Central division. Acquiring prospects to contribute to a future rebuild is now the direction in which the organization is headed.
