Mezcal's rising popularity poses environmental problems, David Suro Piñera, owner of Tequilas, says in new book

David Suro Piñera, owner of Tequilas in Center City, co-authored the book 'Agave Spirits: The Past, Present and Future of Mezcals' with Gary Paul Nabhan. He said the succulents needed to create the Mexican spirit are threatened by global warming and the rush to get more mezcal into production, which disrupts the plant's reproduction and harms the bats that pollinate agaves.
