“Once again we’re struck by a tragedy,” said Dion Baker of Providence. Daunte Wright, 20, was recently killed by police during a traffic stop. “Seeing this again and again on TV – I’ve counted. It’s been 15 times since George Floyd last year. There’s no message that’s being got by the police departments,” said Baker. The officer involved allegedly grabbed her gun when she meant to grab her taser. She resigned, and is now facing charges for second degree manslaughter. “This is almost like deja vu right? Oftentimes we’re not done grieving over the last victim. So it’s a continuous struggle of grief,” said Executive Director of Black Lives Matter RI PAC Harrison Tuttle.
