Hundreds of St Helens people admit to avoiding making GP appointments over past year


AROUND a fifth of St Helens patients avoided making a GP appointment in the past year over fears of being a burden on the NHS, according to a survey.
Between January and March, 2,110 patients in the NHS St Helens CCG area were asked if thy had avoided booking a GP appointment over the last 12 months, and the reasons why.
Of these patients, 44% said they avoided making an appointment – higher than the national average of 42%.
The most common reason given was because patients did not want to place a burden on the NHS, with 429 patients (20%) offering this response.
16% of those surveyed said they did not make an appointment as they were worried about the risk of catching Covid-19, and 12% because it was too difficult.
