Huron Pines project to build new bridge over Pigeon River near Vanderbilt By Paul Welitzkin, pwelitzkin@gaylordheraldtimes.com VANDERBILT — Conservation organization Huron Pines is breaking ground this month on a new bridge where Ford Lake Road crosses the Pigeon River at a popular campground east of Vanderbilt. The road will remain closed while a set of culverts are removed and replaced with a timber bridge to correct issues with erosion, fish passage and road safety. “We chose a timber bridge for this project because it completely opens up the flow of the river for recreationists, fish and wildlife and blends in well with the natural landscape. The bridge will also be designed to accommodate high river flow to alleviate future flooding issues,” said Josh Leisen, senior project manager for Huron Pines.
