Hyundai Kona Electric review: nip and tuck keeps this affordable electric car up with the best

The oily bits – or should that be sparky bits? – might not have changed, but one might argue they didn’t really need to. The top-spec Kona gets a whopping 64kWh battery with a range of up to 300 miles, which is unmatched by pretty much anything else in its class. That’s paired with a 201bhp electric motor, giving a 0-62mph time of just 7.9 seconds.
Almost 190 miles of range should be sufficient for most drivers
However, the model we’re testing here is the less potent, more cost-effective 39kWh version. It’ll only go 189 miles on a charge, but if you rarely drive out of town that’ll probably be enough; what’s more, the smaller battery makes this version of the Kona lighter, more efficient and more environmentally friendly.
