'A snake': Agnelli's cut-throat soccer politics cause uproar

Card image cap

ROME (AP) — If the stylish and swashbuckling soccer romantic Giovanni Agnelli represented the epitome of club presidents a few generations ago, his nephew Andrea Agnelli’s affinity for the cut-throat business side of the sport falls more in line with the American and foreign owners who are gobbling up the European game.
Considered by many the mastermind behind the breakaway Super League that is dividing soccer, Andrea Agnelli is gaining a reputation for his boardroom backstabbing.
“A snake,” was the way an angry UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin labeled Agnelli on Monday. “I have never seen a person lie so many times and so persistently as he did.”

DRIVEN: New Peugeot 3008 is an attractive alternative
By Willem vd Putte
CAPE TOWN - It’s good to hear that Peugeot South Africa is on the up and up after a spell in the doldrums, especially because the brand has a long history in the country.
And now that they are part of the Stellantis conglomerate, it seems that the support of a global motoring powerhouse is starting to pay off.
They have a new logo, new dealership corporate identity and are looking to a rosy future with a good sales performance after 2020’s disastrous lockdown, thanks largely to the introduction of the Peugeot 2008 and Opel Corsa, which has seen a month-on-month upward trend.

RoadTrip | A tale of two lions - What Peugeot's logo is all about and the new 2008 SUV

French automaker Peugeot has used the lion logo on its vehicles for over a century. With a new version of the emblem recently introduced, again featuring a lion's head, we took the latest Peugeot cub to the Swartland to become acquainted with its legendary Cape equivalent, as depicted on the label of the Lion's Hill range of wines.
For over 170 years, Peugeot, now the leading brand in the Stellantis Group, have featured the lion emblem (some say it was based on the Lion of Belfort, emblem of Franche-Comté, a wine-making region and home to the Peugeot family) as its logo.

19 Apr 2021, 8:02 UTC ·
It was about time that Toyota started getting with the “program,” looking far beyond hybrid technology or hydrogen fuel cell powertrains. The Japanese brand now wants to expand its electrified portfolio to around 70 models globally by 2025, including 15 all-new fully electric models (7 of which carrying the bZ moniker).

Car sales in Spain show false hope as COVID-19 delivers new blow to an already struggling sector
\n');document.write('\n \n\n');}
NEW car registrations in Spain in March have shown an optimistic 128% increase over the same period in 2020 according to Spanish market analysts
In numbers, the 128% increase represents 85,913 units sold last month, compared to just 37,644 in 2020, a period that was paralysed with the introduction of the national state of alarm.
Whilst these figures seem positive, like the market is gaining traction again, Autoinfor warn that when compared to the same period in 2019, before the pandemic, 2021 figures are still way down, a further 32% in fact.

Auto Shanghai 2021 takes place under anti-virus controls that included holding some news conferences by video link. Few executives from abroad are attending. Reporters were required to undergo virus tests.

It's the honesty that impresses, although the options are expensive to make sure base versions qualify for a Goverment grant
Last month, Volkswagen’s appointed investigators wound up their investigation into precisely who knew what in the diesel emissions-cheating scandal. Five years of work, 480 million documents examined, countless interviews, several arrests and jail terms, and some owners’ class actions settled; it’s been a marathon.
Early reports indicate that Volkswagen will be pursuing actions for damages against former chief executive Martin Winterkorn and his equivalent at Audi, Rupert Stadler – the latter recently described by one of my German colleagues as “a man of disgrace”.

Man thought he was covered to drive partner’s car
A 23-YEAR-OLD man who mistakenly thought he was insured to drive the car he was in when stopped by police has been given a fine and penalty points.
Curtis Timlin, with an address of Rosscolban Meadows, Kesh, was convicted of having no insurance and failing to provide his driving licence in relation to an incident on January 30.
At around 5.10pm, police observed a Peugeot on the Cornagrade Road, Enniskillen being driven by the defendant. Checks showed there was no insurance in place.
When he was pulled over, Timlin told officers he had an insurance policy which covered him through a third-party extension.
