The new statewide numbers now show 1,128,613 total coronavirus cases with 19,259 deaths. This compares to 153,174 deer taken the year earlier in 2019-2020, which reflects a 6 percent increase in the deer harvest this past year over last. During the 2020-2021 deer seasons, hunters took 45.4 percent does and 54.6 percent bucks. While archery deer hunters in Illinois took 7,801 more deer this past year than the year earlier, last October’s youth hunt harvested 1,453 fewer deer than in 2019, the muzzleloader season took 371 more deer the year before, and the most recent late-winter antlerless-only season harvested 1,520 more deer compared to 2019-2020.
