IMO urges collaboration for security in Gulf of Guinea The Punch Published 22 July 2021 The International Maritime Organization has urged member states, national authorities, the United Nations and other relevant organisations to strengthen law enforcement, arrest and prosecute pirates within their jurisdictions in accordance with international law and national legal frameworks. The Secretary-General, IMO, Kitack Lim, said this on Wednesday while speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Coordination Forum/Shared Awareness and Deconfliction. The meeting was the launch of a new collaborative framework to combat illicit maritime activities in the Gulf of Guinea. At the meeting were navy representatives from the coastal states in the region and several non-regional naval powers.
