Enforcing the lockdown measures with empathy and minimizing the health risks to staff were significant challenges. People have seen police in a new way during this epidemic. I hope this enhanced trust will mitigate some of the baggage of our colonial legacy and allow a new narrative about police to emerge. Losing seven of our personnel to Covid-19 was heart-wrenching.
