Woodward has survived two open-heart surgeries. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2007, prompting the second surgery. Since then, he has thrived. Woodward has participated in 13 marathons and in an ironman triathlon. Through the book, Woodward said he's hoping to inspire others. "It's been overwhelming for me right now. The community has been incredible," Woodward said. "I've had people reach out to me from across the country, saying, 'Hey, I'm about to go in to have my first heart surgery. Being able to read your book has been able to inspire me and to give me some insight as to what to expect throughout the process of surgery and recovery.'" Woodward also ran a Boston Marathon on former Patriots player Tedy Bruschi’s fundraising team, helping raise $80,000 for stroke and heart disease research.“Heart Failure to Victory” has been out for six weeks.
