BANGALORE - As India's second wave of Covid-19 continues its devastation, the country is relying on scientific clarifications and public health preparedness in an attempt to allay growing fears about a potential third wave affecting children. Doctors and health experts have noted a rise in infections among children since April, fuelling anxiety that children - also the only segment of the population ineligible for vaccines in India - may fare worse in a possible third wave. "There is no scientific evidence and epidemiological data to say that a third wave of Covid-19 in India will affect mainly the children. All susceptible age groups are likely to be equally affected," said Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist formerly with the World Health Organisation.
