Indigenous people with status cards do not have to pay taxes on the Canadian Emergency Response benefit (CERB). Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) and staff discussed CERB and online shopping at Monday’s political Liaison meeting and will release a document to the community with instructions on how to deal with tax charges regarding online shopping and CERB. Community members have asked councillors if they are responsible for paying taxes associated with CERB, that were not taken off when the funds were given after community members received calls and letters from the Canadian Revenue Agency asking community members to pay those fees.
