Representational Image  |  Photo Credit: PTI The integration between the armed forces, a national priority, is expected to become a reality later this year, with the Maritime Theatre Command (MTC) likely to be announced on (or before) Navy Day on December 4 this year and the National Air Defence Command (NADC) before that. There are fewer differences of opinion between the Army, Navy and Air Force about the MTC, which will be based in Karwar and cover all of peninsular India, it's northernmost perimeter stretching from Kutch in Gujarat to the 24 Parganas in West Bengal and stretching right up to Kanya Kumari in the south. Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar islands will be part of it. A senior official said that the MTC will be "outward-looking" and will include the three Naval commands (western, eastern and southern), the Andaman and Nicobar Command which may be downgraded and the Air Force Southern Command. The Army's Southern Command will not be part of the Maritime Command, but the Western Theatre Command (WTC) facing Pakistan. The MTC could have all the assets of the three naval commands, the A&N Command, amphibious weaponry and equipment of the army and the maritime squadrons of the air force. The Coast Guard will also be involved.
