The sturgeon that washed up in the Sandwich marsh was an interesting find. It was interesting because the fish are so rare but also because of their appearance that, with their plated gills, bony shields and snout, is unusual to say the least. Why it washed up in Sandwich is a mystery, but itâs not the first time in recent years a sturgeon has turned up on a beach. In 2015 a sturgeon washed up on the north shore of the Vineyard. It was reported in the Vineyard Gazette. The story did not give the length of the fish, but it appeared to be of similar size to the one found in Sandwich.
