The new iOS 14.5 update promises to finally fix the Face ID mask problem. One of the most frustrating things about being an iPhone user in 2020 and 2021 was the need to enter a pin each time the device needed unlocking. Face ID with a mask simply did not work, as the fancy cameras needed the entire face to make an accurate reading. Thankfully, Apple is now rolling out a fix in the iOS 14.5 beta which should soon make its way to public devices. iOS 14.5 Update Patch Notes (Beta) Face ID can use Apple Watch to unlock iPhone when a face with a mask is detected.
