What do you do about bitcoin? Nothing, has been the default stance of most institutional and private investors – until recently. The growing interest of adventurous individuals – both lucky and unlucky – has been well documented over the last few years. More significant is the increasing interest from institutional investors. The most striking example of which recently was the dive of Ruffer Investment Trust into bitcoin. Now BlackRock has given formal notice to US regulators that it will open two of its funds to investing in bitcoin futures. Bitcoin is increasingly seen as a hedge against inflation at a time when major currencies risk being devalued by mass money printing.
