KKR has just passed control of one of its funds, the Altegris KKR Commitments Private Equity Fund, to iCapital Network, the online private markets investment platform, which claims to have “transformed the way alternative investments are bought, sold, and managed”. KKR owns a minority stake in iCapital Network, and with this deal, the fund becomes the iCapital KKR Private Markets Fund. And why? Because the new fund seeks to offer qualified US investors – numbering over 13 million households, according to the statement announcing the deal last week – “access to a selection of private equity funds and co-investments sponsored or advised by KKR”. Through the magic of iCapital’s platform and fund, not-so-high-net-worth individual investors are being invited to get a piece of KKR’s action.
