J.M. Sorrell: The trouble with tribalism Published: 2/2/2021 1:26:13 PM Most of us learned that tribes — smaller groups of people — have been part of the human evolution story of the last five to six million years. I am no expert, but I have studied enough anthropology and sociology to understand that tribal arrangements have been necessary to survival and advancement of one sort or another for humanlike and human species. Over time, tribes learned to trade, cooperate and offer mutually beneficial aids to other tribes. Tribes also fought each other for resources and territory. In today’s globally-connected world, tribal tendencies still rule, yet it is painfully apparent that tribalism is now counter-evolutionary at this potentially transformative moment in time.
