Jay Jones accusing Mark Herring of illegal campaign financing Photo: WINA RICHMOND (WINA) – A week before Virginia Democrats choose who they want to run for statewide office, state Attorney General Mark Herring’s opponent is accusing him of illegal campaign financing. Norfolk Delegate Jay Jones claims Herring’s campaign has accepted more than $800,000 from a PAC not registered with either the Federal Elections Commission nor the Virginia Department of Elections. Jones’ campaign has sent a complaint letter to state elections claiming the Herring campaign “is running an illegal scheme to improperly funnel unlimited contributions made to the Democratic Attorneys General Association without disclosing funding sources”… and funding sources from any PAC contributing $10,000 or more must reports its contributors and contributions. The letter asks the department to compel the disclosures.
