"Seth, with his one iconic photograph, captured the emotional toll of our country through the eyes and tears of one woman," Yale said. "It is an image that speaks to us, an image that will be etched in our memories. We connect with the heart-wrenching despair of this woman at a time when we’re all feeling that same emotion."
Harrison recalled how he got the shot: "After covering a march from Union Square to Washington Square Park on May 30, I made my way back to Union Square, where I encountered this woman. With tears streaming down her face, she sat with others in silent protest, blocking traffic on 14th Street. After days of covering passionate protests, confrontations with police, and some instances of looting, I found her silent and tearful protest to be moving and forceful."
