CANTON A Stark County man has been deemed mentally competent to stand trial on allegations he bludgeoned a 64-year-old man to death with a hammer inside a mobile home park trailer in the summer of 2019. During a hearing Monday, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione said a psychologist recently found that Lee V. Berry has been restored to competency and understands the legal proceedings in his case. However, Forchione granted a request by Berry's attorney for another psychological evaluation and second opinion. Berry is represented by Kenneth Frame of the Stark County Public Defender's Office. A trial date won't be scheduled until after the new evaluation, depending on the findings.
