Reporter the worst flooding here was perhaps in the early 2000s. Serious storms passed through here and created a havoc. The Property Owners sued the city and won a 5 million pay day and it happened again last december and the sand bags are still here just in case it happens again. This is what it looked like last december when the streets of this Mission Terrace neighborhood flooded. My car was floating across this street. Reporter raw sewerage mixed with storm water rushed into homes, basements, garages and contents were soaked. Walls and floors were damaged. Today eight months later the sand bags are an integral part of the landscape for many blocks. She still gets emotional when she talked about her grandmother who has alzheimers disease. The water in her homes basement garage destroyed the furnace. She has been using a portable heater because we cant afford to replace the unit that was flooded. Reporter lawyer represents 50 Property Owners. Many have had claims denied even though he says mayor ed lee promised to make them whole again. He understood they needed to repair their homes and the claims would be paid. Reporter utilities spokesman could not respond to the lawsuit but said many claims were paid. He said improvements have been made to the system but that the flooded area has historically been vulnerable to floods. There is only a fair amount of capacity you can have within pipes. Once you exceed that everything will come towards the lowest point. Reporter residents are exh0q 9 more flooding. When they chased the man who later died after becoming wedged between two buildings. The family of richard lynnyard did not speak to the media after they reviewed body cam video. They accused initially the department of beating and covering it up. Today they viewed the video along side Attorney John Burris who said officers did nothing wrong. The search teams were all within the normal range of Police Activity and i didnt see anything that suggested a break in it. I didnt see that. Authorities say he died as a result of asphyxiation. Investigators have tracked down the dog captured on cell phone video apparently being abused at a home. Warning some people might find this video very disturbing. It shows the owner of a dog sitting and warding business, grabbing the dog by the neck and throwing it to the ground. The Humane Society is examining the dog. They seized all of the dogs in the womans care including her own pets. The city says the unidentified woman did not have a permit. The District Attorney could file criminal charges on monday. An enormous fire at a recycling plant air quality Officials Say the air is just fine now. By the time they got there on the scene firefighters found the al cove metal and iron company consumed by flames. The fire was so huge they didnt try to go inside. Soon after the roof collapsed firefighters were also worried about what was burning inside. There is canisters of used oil, numerous tanks in there, propane tanks and a couple pallets of lead batteries. It was like burning rubber more than anything and chemicals. Stink. The smoke lingered for hours. Fire officials said the wind did a good job of moving it out and did not have to issue air or smoer warnings. There was a fire at the same building a year ago tomorrow. Cal fire says the wildfire is now 60 contained. The fire which broke out wednesday has burned 2,500 acres. It spread near and around homes but only one uninhabited home was destroyed.
