Here is meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler 7 for us. We have some fog out there. Not much. Well have a shallow on shore push that will allow for a comfortable day at the coastline. Thats about it. Another spare the air alert today has been issued. East bay and the south bay will have the poor air quality and were already 6 to 7 degrees warmer than yesterday, even in the city 5 degrees warmer. Look at all the sun. Cloudy here just a few moments ago. 63 in the city. 70 Mountain View. 71, san jose. We have mid70s in livermore, 78 by the delta. If youre not under an advisory for excessive heat warning, probably on the coast or the san mateo coast, everyone else will experience excessive heat today. In berkeley today, police are preparing for the final act of what could be a violent weekend that so far has been peaceful. An antimarxist rally is scheduled at Civic Center Park. Police are familiar with that location. Thats where demonstrators clashed over President Trump back in april. Cornell bernard joins us live with the very latest. We know the barricades are in place, but has anyone showed up yet . No one has shown up yet. But the berirthplace of the fre Speech Movement is preparing for possible clashes with demonstrators and couldnt demonstrators today. Seeing a heavy Police Presence at Civic Center Park and lots of orange barricades, banner there. Bay area stands against hate and white supremacy. There is a number of scenarios that police are preparing for including possible violence. Even though organizers of todays event have canceled the event. Camber cummings say she will come to the rally alone and on facebook last night, she requested a Police Escort to and from her car because shes worried about her safety. Police say they will try to accommodate her, but may have their hands full. Authorities say they have a plan to keep the peace. We have instituted the barricades here that you see around the park for one reason, for safety reasons. Some of the other things we have a larger number of officers that are present here. We have Alameda County sheriffs, Oakland Police coming in. We have a lot of mutual aid linn go bad. Reporter certainly hoping that they do not go bad. But Berkeley Police hoping to avoid violence like this at a rally on april 15th. Dozens of demonstrators were arrested. If youre coming to the rally today, you may want to know there will be a screening here at Civic Center Park. There will be a bag screening and a number of items have been banned, basically anything that can be used as a weapon. Police officers standing here, this is one of the screening areas here at Martin Luther king jr. Way. And center street. We also want to show you a banner that is now unfurled here at one of the city buildings, berkeley stands against hate. A lot of people expected at this park today. We will see what today brings. Counterprotesters still turned out in full force. The good news, police say they were able to keep everyone safe. Abc 7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian has more from San Francisco. Reporter the fencing and barricades went up and heavily armed police were on the streets and rooftops. San francisco was ready. Im very proud of how we have communicated and how we responded to the will of the people to get out and express themselves but do so peacefully. Were here because the racists arent. Reporter earlier counterprotesters chanted in unison as word spread. Spread. Sp. This after canceling the chrissie field rally too. Im not here to fight them. I want them to see i am a career white woman not here to take their crap. Reporter at alamo square, there was one arrest and people had to push the crowd back. One person was detained after jumping a barricade, while one group disperse d, another grew. Hundreds marched through the castro and eventually arrived at civic center plaza, joining a second group for the peace, love and understanding rally. Wanted to show up, but also show up in a place that would be safe for our family. Reporter children played and families gathered for the shared message, which the mayor supported, while continuing to denounce the Patriot Prayer rally. If people want to have a stage in San Francisco, they better have a message that contributes to peoples lives rather than find ways to hurt them. Reporter in San Francisco, Lisa Amin Gulezian, abc 7 news. Yesterday did not turn out the way the leader of the Patriot Prayer group had planned. Joey gibson said he wanted to hold a press conference at alamo square after canceling the groups rally at chrissie field. That presser was moved to pacifica last minute when police shut down the park. Gibson blamed the media and politicians for misrepresenting the Patriot Prayer movement. It made San Francisco way more dangerous than it could have. And you have a mayor who says were hateful and were violent, okay, doesnt bring up any specific examples. Gibson eventually went to chrissie field and met with dozens of supporters. He left as tensions grew between a few members of the crowd and counterprotesters. Daylight has revealed many things that residents did not want to see. Homes in pieces, trees snapped at their base and floodwaters that continue to rise. In houston, a flash flood emergency, manholes overflowing, streets turned into lakes, nearly impossible to drive through. The citys mayor urging residents to stay home. The streets are treacherous. It makes absolutely no sense for anyone to be out on the road, unless it is an emergency. Reporter these people rescued from an apartment complex. How many we got coming . This morning the Alameda County Fire Department posted this picture on instagram. These firefighters are members of task force 4. They left for texas last night. Mayor jeff weiler has come under fire in the past week for his alleged comments and posts on facebook. Police released this mug shot of one of the suspects, 18yearold Daniel Borden has been charged with Malicious Wounding and is now being held in a cincinnati jail. A second suspect isacing a charge of discharging a firearm. Authorities are looking for a third suspect who will also be charged with Malicious Wounding. A Multiracial Coalition of faith, student and Community Activists are getting ready to step off tomorrow on a ten day march from charlottesville to our nations capital. The coalition includes the womens march on washington and the movement for black lives. Members say the march is in response to President Trumps failure to confront white supremacists, the march is expected to stop by confederate monuments along the march. A crowd wanted to fight i did vidivisiveness and speak against hatred. In spain, a 16th person has died following the terrorist attack in barcelona. Health Authorities Say a 51yearold German National passed away this morning from her injuries. 14 people are now dead from the van attack. Another died in a carjacking when the van driver stabbed him as he was making his getaway. And one more person died in an attack in a nearby town. More than 120 people were wounded. Authorities say 24 remain hospitalized with five in critical condition. President trump faces a new wave of controversy following his pardon of former arizona sheriff joe arpaio. The controversial law man was facing jail time for aggressive tactics against immigrants. The pardon has critics on both sides of the aisle. Mary bruce has the story. The 4,000 Square Foot Center is located at the california museum, dedicated to states Diverse Group of people, customs and culture. The museum encourages visitors to take an interactive stance on hate and intolerance. The mayor says he got involved with the idea early on in response to a wave of hate crimes in the area back in 1999. We wanted a unity center where the kids that come to the capitol every year from around the state could walk across the street and have an experience that would affect their hearts and minds. The mayor also says the timing of the Centers Opening couldnt be better because of what is going on across the country. The center plans to host several discussions about civil rights. Happening now, thousands of runners on the streets of San Francisco for the eighth annual giant race. The first runners took off at 7 00 this morning. You can see them running down the embarcadero from at t park. A half marathon, 10k, 5k and family rely. The race benefits the nonprofit project open hand. The leukemia and Lymphoma Society team in Training Program and the presidio. 10,000 runners are taking part in todays event. Good sunday morning to you. Waking up to a little bit of fog at the coast. So looks like even friday theyre going to see more rain. So certainly very dangerous and catastrophic situation there. Going to be another sunny and warm day, even here with numbers climbing through the 70s. It is 63 in the city. And nice mild start here, 70 in Mountain View as well as gilroy, with 61 half moon bay. From emeryville, nice and sunny, the heat is on. It has been a scorcher with right now temperatures already warming to near 70. And napa and novato, 75 in livermore.
