Whats going on outside. There are some changes starting to show up. Theyre going to be mainly at the coast. You can see the cloudiness there, the fog encompassing the Golden Gate Bridge, also, so caution there as it may get slippery. Some of that moisture in the air clings to the bridge. Thousands of students will be heading back to school this morning after the devastating north bay fires. More than a dozen schools are reopening. Many students and staff, of course, personally affected by the fires. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield live at piner high school. Reporter hi, good morning. 80 students here lost their homes, and so did four staff members. This is one of 13 schools in santa rosa that will be reopening today. A good sign that the city is getting back on its feet. Here is a look, also, at the rebuilding process going on across the city at a Community Meeting last night. Residents are wondering what happens next. They were told that the army corps of engineers will start removing fire debris from about 5,000 properties. So its in charge of that and it says during that process it will monitor the air quality 24 7 during this cleanup. Well be monitoring at schools as well as on the site to ensure those contaminants not being spread. Reporter but first the epa will go to work, start removing Hazardous Waste from the coffey park neighborhood that will start today. We turn to breaking news in san jose, a fire burning a popular fast food restaurant. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller just arrived. Matt, what can you tell us . Reporter good morning, natasha and reggie. Were on croply avenue at north capital avenue. This is a kfc that went up in flames this morning. It happened at about 4 30, and firefighters called out two alarms. So a lot of firefighters here on the scene. You have two ladder trucks up in the air. But no water coming from them. Theyre all fighting this from the ground. Theyre fighting it from outside of this building. You can see that a lot of smoke is still coming up. They knocked down the flames. But now theyre trying to get make sure they get the flames that are burning inside the building and up in the roof area here at this kfc. They blocked off croply avenue in both directions off north capital avenue. Were near 680, a mile and a half away from the great mall here in san jose. Theyll be out here for a while as they work on the fire. Firefighters bringing down one of the ladder trucks so it appears theyre not going to be fighting this from the sky but will be working from the ground with those chainsaws and digging into that roof and into the attic here and trying to get these flames out as this fire broke out in the middle of the night here in san jose. Bay area congresswoman Jackie Speier sharing her story, her me too story, amid the Harvey Weinstein scandal. A lot of victims of sexual abuse and harassment as well speaking out on social media using their platform on social media to ebbs pose their stories including highprofile women like speier. M. Until 2 00 p. M. Saturday people can take their pills to almost any Law Enforcement agency or fire station for free and safe disposal so they dont end up in the water supply or the wrong hands. The Sheriffs Office in new york says flora stevens was using last name harris when detectives tracked her down at an assisted living facility near boston. They say her husband dropped her off for a doctors appointment in new york in 75 and when he returned to pick her up she wasnt there. She suffers from dementia so has not been able to shed light on where shes been the last four decades. The United Auto Workers union filed an official complaint against tesla. That complaint claims unfair labor practices at the palo altobase altobased plant. They fired about 400 employees from its plant in fremont including associates, team leaders, and supervisors n. Chp and tow truck got that out of there rapidly so traffic is flowing nicely through the area there, back to millbrae its apparently just north of millbrae avenue. A car partially blocking the slow lane and it has a tire stuck underneath it. We have Redwood City Police on the scene there and traffic is getting by okay. Hopefully theyll push that out of lanes shortly. Well be back to check on that and the bay bridge. Its 5 20 now. A carpooling system in place at cupertino high school.
