Well get to that later, but first well begin with breaking new details about the victims and gunman in a deadly shooting spree in california. A shooter going on the rampage killing at least four people opening fire at seven different locations, including an elementary school. Where police are praising the quickthinking staff there for preventing a tragedy there. Our Senior National correspondent matt gutman is in red bluff, california, with the latest. Good morning, matt. Reporter hey, good morning, robin. That quickthinking principal knew what they were hearing in the distance was not firecrackers but gunfire and immediately put that school on lockdown. Even before getting notice from Law Enforcement and this morning, the sheriff is learning more about that suspect and the 14 people he shot. Authorities believe kevin neal is the man responsible for terrorizing a Northern California community in a shooting rampage that lasted 45 minutes. The killing spree began at 7 52 a. M. When the 911 call came in that a person was down at a local home. Police say neal drove shooting as he went to the Tehama Elementary School where he fired at least 30 rounds. The gunman arrived here literally driving his truck into that school. And thats when he tried to take aim at the students inside. This man was dropping his daughter off at kindergarten. My 5yearold was so shook up that she heard the words shooter on campus and run to the classroom. She didnt know where to go. She was just frozen in time. Reporter moments later the gunman opened fire. You were standing by the door as the bullets were coming in the windows . Thats correct. When i turned my back, our window was being blasted through. Reporter one 5yearold was shot right in front of him, but is expected to be okay. The School Principal is being hailed as a hero this morning. Authorities believe neal tried to kill as many students as possible in that tiny school, but was thwarted when the school immediately wept on lockdown. According to authorities the frustrated gunman got back into his truck shooting at bystanders on the treat and into residents homes even at other motorists. He encountered other people on the road and took that citizens vehicle and went back on his rampage. Reporter that citizen was a mother driving her son to school. The boy is expected to be okay. But his mother is in critical condition. This man passed the shooter in his vehicle. He drove into a ditch and i didnt know it was the shooter at first. I asked if he was okay and he said, yeah, im okay. How about you . And then he pulled out his gun, and i started running. Reporter the entire community was on lockdown for fearly 45 minutes when officers finally caught up to him. The Police Officer rammed the vehicle, forced it off the road and it resulted in the shooters death. Reporter fbi forensic teams on multiple scenes picking through the evidence including dozens of bullet casings. Neals mother telling the Associated Press her son called her a few days before the killing and said, its all over now. Im on a cliff, and theres nowhere to go. Now his mother paints a portrait of a psychologically disturbed man who she says was reaching out for help. We know that neal had been feuding with his neighbors actually stabbing one of them back in january. He was charged with assault with a Deadly Weapon for that, facing prosecution. Now, the Sheriffs Office this morning is trying to determine whether or not the guns he had were legal. And if not, how he got hold of them. Robin . So many questions, matt. Thank you. Thank you, robin. Also this morning President Trump is back in washington after his 13day trip overseas now gearing up for a battle on tax reform. Senate republicans revealed a new plan overnight that takes on obamacare, calling for a repeal of the individual mandate. That would reduce the deficit but cause 13 million americans to lose their coverage and Senate Republicans facing a growing crisis over roy moore who was defiant about not dropping out of the race despite allegations of Sexual Misconduct with teenage girls. And tom llamas in birmingham, alabama, with the latest. Good morning, tom. Reporter george, good morning to you. Roy moore spoke overnight and did not sound like someone who is even considering dropping out of this race. Hes now describing this as a spiritual battle to his supporters, saying he wants to bring the truth about god to the u. S. Capitol. Roy moore may be a pariah to some on capitol hill, but overnight at this alabama church, a standing ovation. Obviously ive made a few people mad. Im the only one that can unite democrats and republicans. Because i seem to be opposed by both. Reporter moore the Republican Senate candidate from alabama. This is not just a battle for democrats and republicans and how they vote on issues, this is a spiritual battle. Reporter at war with many in his own party who are calling on him to drop out after allegations surfaced he sexually assaulted two teenage girls while he was a local prosecutor in the late 70s. I tried fighting him off while yelling at him to stop. Reporter moore has denied all accusations of Sexual Misconduct. But Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is still planning to take him down. Even suggesting a writein campaign for embattled attorney general Jeff Sessions. The alabamian who would fit that standard would be the attorney general who is totally wellknown and extremely popular in alabama. Reporter mcconnell vowing if moore does win the newly elected alabama senator will face an immediate ethics investigation. Muddying the waters even more in alabama, a bogus robocall. At least one voter telling abc news they received this suspicious message pretending to be from the Washington Post which broke the story about moores accusers. Hi, this is bernie bernstein. Im a reporter for the Washington Post calling to find out if anyone at this address is a female between the ages of 54 to 57 years old, willing to make damaging remarks about candidate roy moore for a reward of between 5,000 and 7,000. Reporter the post saying the call is fake and is appalled that anyone would stoop to this level. One of moores biggest and wellknown supporters issuing an ultimatum. For me the judge has 24 hours. Reporter fox news sean hannity under pressure after companies pulled their ads from his show over what seemed to be his support for moore now demanding the candidate prove his innocence. You must remove any doubt. If you cant do this, then judge moore needs to get out of this race. Reporter you heard sean hannity there. Roy moores support may be crumbling outside of his state, but here in the state, there are still several elected officials still backing him. Yesterday on capitol hill i tried talking to republican alabama rep accident active mo brooks and had to chase him down five flights of stairs to ask him if he believed the women or roy moore. He says that he believes electing a democrat would actually be more dangerous than electing moore in the wake of what he calls contested sexual allegations. George . That is a congressman. The senior republican senator Richard Shelby saying he thinks the state party should drop him. Mean time, the the next big shoe to drop could be President Trump. Hes now back in the United States expected to weigh in on roy moore at some point. Reporter thats right, george. Hes back from asia but the story in front of him is all about alabama. Our reporting is that Jeff Sessions has no interest in being the writein candidate, but that may be the republicans best option since moore doesnt want to step aside. The campaign has told me that even a call from President Trump would not compel moore to drop out of this race. Although from what the president said he might not be too unhappy if Jeff Sessions is no longer attorney general. Tom llamas, thank you very much. Republican senators now united against roy moore as they push hard for their tax bill. Our correspondent mary bruce tracking it. Another shot at repealing the key part of obamacare in this tax bill. Reporter george, this is a risky move. As part of their tax bill, Senate Republicans are now aiming to repeal the Obamacare Mandate that all americans have insurance or pay a fine. Now, republicans weve seen them try this before. And fail. But the president wants to give this another go. Repealing the mandate could help them save more than 300 billion but it could leave 13 million more americans uninsured over the next decade. Were already seeing some republicans raise concerns about what this could mean especially for your premiums. But, george, the big question is their desire to pass tax reform will that outweigh these concerns . Another big change that could complicate that. Theyre making the middle class tax cuts temporary, b. But this looks like this me too movement may be about to hit home. That hearing yesterday where a member of congress, a female member said at least two of her colleagues have been investigated for Sexual Harassment. Yeah, george, female members of congress led by Jackie Speier shining a spot light on Sexual Harassment here on the hill. Saying this is a very big problem. Yesterday congresswoman speier accused two of her fellow colleagues of misconduct and Sexual Harassment. Now they want to overhaul the process to report and file complaints about this kind of behavior. Robin. Also on capitol hill, attorney general Jeff Sessions in the hot seat grilled over what he knew about the Trump Campaigns russia contacts and whether he told the truth in previous testimony. It was a contentious hearing with democrats on the attack and sessions pushing back hard. I had a meeting with the russian ambassador, yes. Well reporter attorney general Jeff Sessions defiant, at times indignant, at the suggestion that he lied to congress. I will not accept and reject accusations that i have ever lied. That is a lie. Reporter just last month, sessions testified that he never knew of any communications between russian operatives and the Trump Campaign. Im not aware of those activities. And i wasnt. And am not. And i dont believe they occurred. Reporter but those activities discussed in that march 2016 meeting with sessions thencandidate donald trump, and former trump Foreign Policy adviser George Papadopoulos who said he had connections who could arrange talks between trump and vladimir putin. Papadopoulos has since pled guilty to lying to the fbi. Sessions said he had forgotten about that meeting only recalling amid press reports. There are reports you shut george down, unquote, when he proposed that meeting with putin. Is this correct, yes or no . Yes. I pushed back. Reporter his answer to how he could forget a meeting like that it was a Brilliant Campaign i think in many ways, but it was a form of chaos every day from day one. Staff in zimbabwe have been advised to shelter in place because of a military coup. Soldiers seized control of state tv today. Authorities are warning this killer has escaped a Psychiatric Hospital in hawaii and flown to california. Adrienne bankert has the latest. This is a really disturbing story, michael, for many reasons. One is that the hospital says that he is now in Northern California escaping from hawaii as you mentioned. Hes dangerous and should not be approached. They describe him as sadistic and that most chilling is that he has all the characteristics of a classic serial killer. Now, we do know that saito left the Psychiatric Hospital emptyhanded and hailing a cab that took him to the airport. And he chartered a plane, able to get from that plane to the Honolulu Airport and travel to Northern California specifically san jose. We know that he now has a backpack. He has cash. He has a cell phone and a phone charger. And, again, authorities saying that what is possibly most disturbing is that there was no report that saito was even missing for about ten hours. An hour and a half after he landed in san jose. And we still dont know. The Health Department still hasnt told us how he was able to get out. Seemed like such an easy escape. How was he able to charter a plane . Either somebody is helping him. We dont know all the details. Either somebody is helping him or he was able to get from one plane to the next. Again hes in california at this point. Strange and scary story. Now to a crackdown on College Fraternity life after another death of a student college. Texas State University suspended all frat and sorority activities. After the death of a young man who attended a party. Gio benitez here with the details. Gio, this just keeps happening. This morning the university is taking no chances. This morning officials are investigating the death of a texas State University student saying alcohol may have played a role. Some initial interviews of the persons on scene indicated that they had been drinking that evening, the evening prior. Reporter 20yearold matthew ellis, a Phi Kappa Psi pledge, was found dead monday morning at an offcampus apartment after attending a fraternity event. Officials say if he was hazed arrests could be made. Charges could range from furnishing alcohol to a minor on the high end of possibly manslaughter. Reporter the university shutting down all greek life at the school. The texas state president releasing a statement saying, it is imperative that our entire University Community develop a culture that places the highest priority on the safety of its students, faculty, and after the. This is the latest in a string of recent incidents at fraternities around the country. Just last month ten current and former Louisiana State students were arrested after a freshman pledge died in an alleged hazing ritual. The fraternitys local chapter shut down. Last week, pi kappa phi suspending its Florida State branch after a pledge was found dead after a night of partying. And this week 12 more former Fraternity Brothers were charged in the alleged hazing death of penn state freshman tim piazza. And those 12 students will face a judge in about two weeks but in all of these cases the students who have already entered pleas, theyre maintaining their innocence and saying theyre not guilty of this. Soil landing in los angeles where you can see they were met by a crowd of reporters. Reporter but this morning terry crews, the former nfl player turned actor, is taking on a new role as an advocate for victims of Sexual Harassment. The 240pound former star linebacker, one of the first male celebrities to join the chorus of those saying they, too, had been harassed in tinseltown. He says a highpowered celebrity executive grouped him as a party last year. He first told his story in a series of tweets that started out this whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me ptsd . Why . Because this kind of thing happened to me. My wife and a were at a hollywood function and a highlevel hollywood executive came over to me and groped my privates. That executive, a talent agent at Williams Morris endeavor. The Company Confirms the agent has been suspended following the internal investigation into the matter. And now crews is taking action. Tmz captured him leaving an lapd office last week after filing a Police Report. Why did you decide to file the Police Report today . Because, you know, people have to be held accountable. I understand that. Are you planning to file a lawsuit, as well . Uh, yeah. Yeah . Yep. Were going to go all the way. Reporter multiple men in hollywood like James Vanderbeek and Anthony Edwards have since shared allegations of their own about different men, coming forward after crews spoke out. And can you tell us what happened . First of all, you know, back in february 2016, i was assaulted by adam venit, head of the Motion Picture department at William Morris endeavor. One of the biggest agencies in the world. Period. And what was wild is that my wife and i were at an event with adam sandler and, you know, the thing is hes also Adam Sandlers agent and Sylvester Stallones agent and Eddie Murphys agent and, you know, hes connected to, you know, probably everyone i know in the business. And now this is the thing. I did not know this man. So you did not know him before this . I had never had a conversation with him, ever. Okay. I knew of him and i knew just because its an agency thing but i the first time i ever actually had interaction with him was at this event. And i literally im looking at him. And hes basically staring at me and hes sticking his tongue out and, you know, its just overtly sexual kind of tongue moves. And im sitting here, its a party, its packed. The whole thing and im looking like, is this a joke . I dont understand. It was actually so bizarre. He keeps coming over to me. He comes over to me. I stick my hand out and he takes his hand and puts it and squeezes my genitals. And i jump back like, hey, hey. And hes still like hes still licking his tongue out. And all this stuff. And i go, dude, what are you doing . What are you doing . And then he comes back again and he just wont stop and then i really got forceful, pushed him back. He bumps into all the other partygoers, the whole thing. And he starts giggling and laughing. And let me tell you, i have never felt more emasculated. More objectified. I was horrified. I went over to adam right then and there, adam, come get your boy. What is his what is his problem . And so, you know what, adam your wife was with you. My wife is right there. He was acting so weird and so strange i put myself between, you know, him and my wife because with his tongue thing i couldnt understand. Let me tell you its so bizarre i wake up every morning wondering, did this really happen . Its nuts. You said your wife was there. She saw the entire thing . Yes. You said you went over to adam immediately. What was his response . I told him, hes grabbing my junk. I was like, adam what is wrong with your boy . He looked like he didnt understand. Because it was bizarre to both of us. We just i just literally, i said, thats now, when i looked at him, it was rage. And when i say rage, i felt like i could punch a hole in his head. Okay . But this is the deal. My wife told me, three years earlier, she said, terry, you can never handle any situation like this with violence. You are a target. You can be baited and pulled, if you react physically. And let me tell you something. Ive done it before. But this is the deal, when i grabbed her hand and i left that party, we were only there for like a half hour, i got in the car. I almost ripped the Steering Wheel off. And she just kept saying, im proud of you. Im proud of you. Im proud of you. And i said, man she calmed you down . She calmed me down because she was the one who told me that this kind of thing would happen and that you could be baited. This is the thing. If i would have just retaliated in defense i would be under jail right now. Thats one thing i knew being a large africanamerican man in america, i would immediately be seen as a thug. But im not a thug. Im an artist. A lot of people would say, that happened to me, the first thing i would do is strike back at somebody. You chose not to do that. Well, literally my wife had me prepared. This is so beautiful about it because she had me prepared. She knew Something Like this could happen and, man, when it did, she was just right there for me. Shes right there with me and she saw the whole thing. And then, last week, we saw it in the piece, but you filed a Police Report last week. Yes, yes. What do you hope comes of this . You know, people need to be held accountable, mike. This is the deal about hollywood. And its an abuse of power. This is this guy, again, one of the most powerful men in hollywood. And he looked at me at the end as if, you know, who is going to believe you . So you didnt think anybody would believe you if you came forward . Last year, no, no, actually i let it go. Actually i put it in the back of my head. And i understood why women everywhere had to let it go. But let me tell you, when the weinstein thing started happening, i got ptsd. I was going, oh my god, this exact thing happened to me. I understand why they wont come forward. Let me tell you a lot of times people go, why didnt you come forward sooner . When a person of power breaks that boundary and violates that boundary youre a prisoner of war. Immediately, youre in a camp. Because youre trying to figure out when is the right time to come out. Leave the door open, youre digging tunnels with spoons and trying to find out a out and get out and find freedom and someone says, well, it must not be that bad. You should have came out sooner. Youre like, im free. I finally got free. And this is the thing that a lot of people just dont understand. And they end up blaming the victim. And i have totally said i will not be shamed. I will not be shamed. I did nothing wrong. Nothing. And the whole deal is people are like, why didnt you do this . Why didnt you do that . Why dont you ask why isnt adam venit sitting here right now explaining his side . Good question. And you wrote that tweet a few days after Harvey Weinsteins story broke. Exactly. So you felt empowered by everyone elses stories. I did. That let you step out of the darkness, if you want to say. Let me tell you, i was a keynote speaker at this place called center for Community Solutions that dealt with relationship violence, sexual assault. And i heard all these stories from all these women who were just who had finally get strength from each others stories. And they came out. And i said, man, what kind of man would i be to tell my kids if someone touches you where you dont want to be touched, tell someone. Tell someone. And then i dont do it. Let me tell you something, it freed me. I knew instantly that i had to tell my story so that other people could be free. I didnt even name names. I was just in support of these women because they were called liars. They were they were like youre just looking for a payday. I was like this is not what this is about. Your dream, its like a child. What youre trying to do, your dreams, goals, aspirations are just as valuable as your children. When someone binds up your dream and holds a gun to its head and say its going to kill it if you dont do this and stay quiet, if you dont do this, it is a hostage situation. Youre dealing with a terrorist. And i have my dream. Ive worked so hard for this. What can i say . Its one of those things i survived the nfl, got to entertainment. Im here. And what theyre alleging here is that there was an inspection done before the slide opened that found safety issues. And the family believes those issues were not resolved before the slide opened. The city says the slide was tested and approved by the manufacturer and the state of california safety regulators as well. The manufacturer also says they did try to settle this amicably but the family did not provide medical records. The slide remains closed until it can be approved for reopening. Now, frustrated neal apparently took that truck and continued on that shooting spree firing at motorists and pedestrians, carjacking another vehicle before finally police rammed his car and then shot him dead as well. Now, this morning Law Enforcement here is investigating whether or not it was legal for him to have obtained multiple assaultstyle rifles and if it wasnt because he was facing assault with a Deadly Weapon charge how he got hold of those weapons. The company is now facing a Class Action Lawsuit accusing drivers of Sexual Misconduct against thousands of female passengers after two women came forward sharing their stories. Its the ride sharing app marketed as a safe alternative way to get home. But this morning, one florida woman says after a night of fun and drinking she and her friend got into an uber and once they got to her apartment, things turned for the worse. He took me upstairs, he was dragging me at first. And then he threw me over his shoulder because i couldnt walk. Jane doe number one averaging us to distort her voice and not show her face. She is now one of two women filing a proposed Class Action Lawsuit against uber claiming they were sexually assaulted by their uber drivers accusing the ride hailing app of leaving them vulnerable because of allegedly inadequate background checks and monitoring of its drivers. Reporter according to the Police Report for jane doe number one, the alleged subsidy, nimer abdala admitted to sexually assaulting her pepping in a criminal court in miami and jane doe number two speaking out about a ride she says she took earlier this year in los angeles. She also asked us to alter her voice and not show her face. We started on our way home. Dont really know what happened during that time. I was like in and out of consciousness but i know that i was assaulted. I was in the backseat and woke up and he was in the backseat. I wasnt like really in my right mind for like two weeks and then i was just so afraid. Reporter the proposed class action suit calling upon uber to tighten their background checks on their drivers worldwide. Alleging since the Company Launched thousands of female passengers have endured unlawful conduct by their uber drivers including rape, sexual assault, physical violence and gendermotivated harassment. We want the court to order that uber disclose how many reports it has received and then what has uber done in response to these complaints, have any drivers been fired or what actually happens and why should women feel safe to ride with uber . Overnight a spokesperson told us they received this complaint today and are in the process of reviewing it. These allegations are important to us and we take them very seriously. And, robin, we looked at ubers rider safety side and say they use a Third Party Company for background checks on drivers going back for seven years. Uber says thats to identify offenses and other informations that could disqualify drivers, including driving violations and sexrelated crimes and more needs to be done. So much more needs to be done. The pressure is on for preteens to have smartphones. Do you know any kids that dont have smartphones . No. Reporter and the pressure is also on for their parents. Is there one word that you can give me to describe the thought of buying your kid a smartphone . Dread. Regret. Frightening. And it is so addictive. Reporter it was this pressure that led austin mom brook shannon to start wait until 8th where parts signed a pledge not to get their child a smartphone before eighth grade. I think before the pledge, parents didnt feel like they had a choice. They could give their kid a phone because everyone had one or could be one of the only, quote unquote mean moms or dads that arent giving their kid a phone and it just felt really lonely and isolating. How effective do you think this movement can be. I think the more people who can join together and say well delay this, its a very powerful device. It is a crutch and easy access and causes arguments. What do you think life would be like without your smartphone. I think it would be better in most ways. Why . Smartphones are soft of a distraction during school. It leads to bad grades and bad study habits and that leads to much worse things. Even the kids know its not great for them an hard for many to justify why they need a smartphone beyond the fact that all of their peers and everybody else has one. Other alternatives you have is there there are, in fact in my framily we bought a gizmo gadget and a gizmo pal. You restrict the calls, the texts, that has gps tracking that gizmo pal you can only make phone calls. What about the good oldfashioned just make a call. Say hello to my little friend, robin. The flip phone is alive and well. Basic phone. A basic phone. This has a camera. Make sure if you dont want your children to take photos to get a flip phone that doesnt have one. Its basic. Call your kids and want them to text voila, the flip phone. Okay. Now what if your child already has go to therapy. I dont have no, youll try to take it away from them. See, this is difficult but, remember, at the end of the day you are the parent and the onus is on you. Thank you. Share with them the concerns about the fact its going to impair their sleep and can impair grades and relationships. The links to depression. Of course i think i was being prepared by whole childhood life like this would send us to georgia to see my grandparents and i would see my grand mom as this my understanding as this woman. So she was already in and knew to move like a southern woman and speak like a southern woman. They say its bad luck to see somebody leave. When asked whats next you said more movies. When her hair started to fall out, mom and daughter got matching hair cuts. We actually went at the same time after the first round of chemo. I didnt come here to Party Reporter now happy and healthy getting the vip treatment and celebrating her 17th birthday with a tour on the famous rodeo drive and a visit to Madame Tussauds catching up with forrest gump.
