He died at a hospital in bakersfield last night at the age of 83. Manson was the mastermind behind a twoday murderous rampage through Southern California in 1969 that left seven people dead. He and three of his followers were convicted and sentenced to death, but the sentences were commuted to life in prison. And this morning it is unclear exactly what will happen with mansons remains. Prison Officials Say he had no known next of kin. Charles manson supposedly lived in this home with his early followers in the haight in San Francisco in 1967 during the summer of love. The home is on cold street listed as a historical location on some maps and is a popular hot spot for tour guides. He tried to make it as a musician. Manson records sell for as much as 75. This morning one person is dead and the coast guard is working through the night to search for another missing man who has not been found. Reporter a boat going in circles, a clear indication something was wrong. In this case it was a boston whaler, a popular fishing vessel known for being stable and sea worthy. It was spinning at a speed of 15 knots just off Martins Beach in san mateo county. Once you lose control of the helm, those are designed to circle. Its in the steering mechanism where it pulls forward, to the right or left, and it will stay in the circle. Reporter the two men onboard somehow ended up in the ocean. The body of one was recovered soon after rescue crews arrived. The other is still missing, the person believed to have been operating the boat. They believe neither was wearing a life jacket. I am not sure if they would have survived in the situation but certainly they would have had their heads above water for long enough to have somebody have seen them. Reporter authorities let the boat run out of fuel. They then towed it to the harbor. Theyre storing it as evidence. It doesnt appear foul play was involved. The boat has had a preliminary lookthrough. Everything looks fine, like an accident. We want to doublecheck to make sure. Reporter no word on how long theyll be searching for tran. The harbor master plans to rejoin the effort in the morning. Near Half Moon Bay, lilliian ki abc 7 news. A daly city motorcycle officer is recovering after a police chase and manhunt ended in a crash. Investigators say it started when the officers spotted two men casing parked cars yesterday afternoon. The suspects took off and the officer went after them. The chase ended on 280 in San Francisco. The officer lost control of his bike. He suffered only cuts and bruises. Moments later the suspects car collided with the patrol car. No officers hurt there. Police say both suspects ran from the car into an engle side neighborhood, found hiding in Shane Oneills backyard. They found the guys hiding between two fences between the two back yards and they arrested them. The identity of the two suspects has not been released.
