I would say thats a little more than 22 hours of deliberations. Now, this morning we thought that there could be a verdict, but that was not the case. Now the members of the jury have one more day of deliberations before they break for the weekend. Remember, no court on fridays. Now, once the verdict is read, all of the jurors are then polled in order to confirm the verdict. Today there was no sign of the defendants legal team, only the prosecutor entered the courtroom once or twice. That may mean that the jury is done asking questions of the attorneys and they are now really deliberating and going over the statements made by the witnesses and deciding if jose zarate should be found guilty of seconddegree murder and thats what hes been charged with. But remember they have been instructed to also consider firstdegree murder or involuntary manslaughter. He may also be acquitted, but that doesnt mean he walks out of here a free man. I would imagine that there is a federal hold on the defendant already so that if he is acquitted, he will be taken into federal custody. Last night San Franciscos supervisors rejected an attempt to limit the number of new dispensaries. They agreed to give preference to pot shops that commit to hiring locally. Oaklands City Council Approved taxes and permits for cannabis sales. This ensures the government will not delay manufacturing, cultivation and sales. Councilmember at large Rebecca Kaplan says pot sales will help improve the city overall. The council has already cast a resolution setting aside 20 for the homeless and the council will vote how to spend the rest of the money. Recreational marijuana sales become legal starting january 1st. Caltrans is shutting down part of the Manzanita Park and ride lot for one week because it expects the lot to flood. A proposed Ballot Initiative could make it easier for older California Homeowners to buy and sell their homes. Under the proposal, homeowners who are disabled or over 55 would be able to transfer their existing low tax assessments to a new home. Right now only a handful of counties in california offer that benefit but the proposal aims to expand that statewide. What we need is for people that are living in homes larger than they need to make that voluntary decision to move out to a smaller home and open up those larger homes to younger families who have kids. The proposal is backed by the California Association of realtors. Analysts argue the measure will cost the state millions in lost revenue. The rv industry continues to be on the rise and could reach a milestone this year. The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association believes shipments to dealers will top 500,000 this year, which would be an alltime record. A republican state lawmaker is hoping to take his fight against californias controversial gas tax to the states highest court.
