Developing news now from oakland where a young child is recovering after getting shot last night. It happened while the girl was in a car with her mother on simson street. Someone opened fire on them. Only the girl was hit and shes only 3 or 4 years old. Her family drove her to Childrens Hospital where shes being treated for a wound to her arm. You can see the bullet holes in the car. No arrests made. No libraries, no afternoon programs, no senior centers. Also no meter maids. We are entering day three of this impasse with city hall. After a two and a half hour long meeting it wasnt to be. The mayor came out and said the city is already stretching to make this current offer and that the city just cant go any further. So you will see more of this today. People on the picket line. 3,000 workers are on strike. That means all nonemergency City Services are shut down. The city council will meet again today at 1 00. Were trying to get to the point where theres an agreement so we can get our employees back to work and making sure we as a city are providing the services that people in the city expect. After being unable to reach a decision were disappointed to hear that but were glad theyre taking time to consider the matter until city council acts, however, were still on the piblgt lines. Reporter the workers say they cant afford to live in the city anymore. The city says it cant afford to pay them what theyre asking saying if they agree to what the union is asking for they would have to lay off about 188 fulltime employees. For some employees at observing unified its turning into quite a headache. More than 2,800 employees had their monthly paychecks accidentally pulled from their Bank Accounts yesterday. Employees were accidentally paid double when the district tried to reers its original mistake. Workers will have to return that double payment. The district is taking the blame for the payroll error. And the embarrassing error comes as School Leaders discuss a plan to slash 5. 5 million from the budget. Outraged parents and teachers packed a special Board Meeting last week to fight the cuts. The board says the money would come from the Central Office but the plan would also eliminate funding for school supplies. A meeting to discuss the cuts will take place at 7 00 p. M.
