And in case you didnt hear oh by golly have a Holly Jolly Christmas this year and good morning, america. Thanks for joining us on this friday morning. You know, only oprah can make a fraud funny. I mean she really has a way of saying it. Lets listen to it again. Its a fraud, its a fraud, its a fraud. It gets your attention and she wants her millions of viewers and followers to know they shouldnt click on the scam to take their information and money. Well have much more on that. It was a big deal and had to respond on twitter. The Great Holiday escape as well is under way. A live look at chicagos Ohare Airport. Look at all those people. One of the busiest in the country today and this was just the scene moments ago in dallas after that evacuation. Everyone piling back into the airport and, amy, the worst thing you can hear at the airport you have to be rescreened. Oh, gosh. Millions more, of course, not just hitting the airways but the roadways. Theyre driving for the holiday. This is a live look at our traffic cam in new york city. Triple a says more than 97 Million People are hitting the road over the next week. Youll be doing that, driving and flying . Driving today and flying this weekend. Whoo hoo. 2. 7 million expected to fly and david kerley is at Dulles Airport outside washington, d. C. Starting us off on the tarmac. David, it looks like theyre putting you to work this morning. Reporter good morning, tom. Youre looking at aircraft that came in on this very busy travel day. Lets talk about dallas and love field that you guys mentioned. It was a small fire earlier this morning that forced the evacuation of the entire terminal. Folks were back in within 45 minutes. Southwest, thats their major hub, say this could cause delays in their system at that Love Field Area for an hour and a half. That could ripple through the system and cause problems. Otherwise its been a smooth start to the day. A very busy day yesterday and today, the two busiest travel days for the Christmas Holiday season. Lets look at flight aware. The map just getting going on this friday morning. What will it look like later today . Heres yesterdays. Thursday and friday, the two busiest days, a lot of aircraft in the air. So far, cancellations not a serious problem today. Thats the good news. Friday is their busiest day trying to get folks home for the holidays. You can see boxes and bags as folks are traveling home. Between today and new years united will handle 5 million passengers trying to get them home. So far the system seems to be working fairly well, people getting where they want to get, home for the holidays. Tom. That sounds great and we will watch that weather. You said yesterday and today are some of the busiest days. What about after christmas, all those travelers returning home . Reporter this is really a problem. Think about it. Yesterday and today, very busy times. A lot of them want to get back to their houses where they live come tuesday, the day after christmas. Thats going to be a very busy day. Pack some patience if youre traveling on tuesday. So far, so good. Tom. David, thank you. David kerley on the front lines of the great escape. Amy. Weather has such an impact on travel and, ginger, i know, youve been watching the big storm moving across the country. Where now and whats it going to do to everybody hitting the roadways and airwaves . Amy, youre already seeing light freezing rain falling in bedford, pennsylvania and snow in the northeast. Its already started here. You see denver, colorado, the roads, thats what it looks like, less than an inch. In mankato, minnesota, plenty of spinoffs even with that light snow. Its actually sometimes worse. Thats what were going to see in some spots today. Storms possible dallas to memphis this morning. A couple of airports to watch. Boston tonight, if you have a flight there i would watch out for that. We stopped it at 7 00 p. M. Along the warm front. I90, 95 could be messy and rain saturday night. But if you have a flight yet washington, d. C. To new york and boston, you could see rain and then snow. Hey, you want a White Christmas . Theres a shot of it for some folks. Ill tell you about it coming up. Amy. Okay, thats very exciting, ginger, thank you. We move on to washington right now. Overnight congress avoiding a Government Shutdown for the moment but as the president heads to maralago this morning, the u. S. Is facing backlash over his decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. The u. N. Voting to condemn that move despite ambassador nikki haleys threat. Our Congressional Correspondent mary bruce has all the latest from the white house. Good morning, mary. Reporter good morning, amy. In a collective rebuke, the United Nations voted overwhelmingly to condemn the president s decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. It came even after the trumps ambassador to the u. N. , nikki haley, issued a direct threat suggesting that the u. S. Would think twice about funding the u. N. If it went through with this decision, adding the u. S. Will be, quote, taking names. But the u. N. Voted anyway. The president is getting ready to depart the white house shortly, on his way down to florida where hell be spending the holiday with family in maralago. As always, the president is always president and he will still continue to attend to official business. First there is one big thing looming on his todo list. He needs to sign that big tax reform bill, that big legislative accomplishment for republicans. We are told by a source that theres a very good chance that he signs this bill soon before he leaves for that Christmas Holiday. Tom. Quite a year in washington, lets bring in matthew dowd for a yearend review of the Trump Presidency breaking down what he promised and if hes delivered. Matt, good morning to you. Lets start with the president s tax cut plan, a clear victory for the president , also getting rid of the Obamacare Mandate which penalized people for not Getting Health Insurance but a reminder of a battle he hasnt won to fully repeal and replace obamacare. Yeah, tom, i think this is a clear legislative victory on the one hand on the tax cut victory but on the other side on the obamacare side, its not a clear legislative victory. Theres a huge difference between a legislative victory and a political victory. So hes put a lot of yards on the field and has a lot of first downs, but for a political purpose he hasnt accomplished that much. His signature issue on the campaign trail was the promise to build a wall and have mexico pay for it. Weve seen some prototypes but thats still a promise he hasnt fully delivered on. I think itll be one very difficult to deliver on. As you know, all of the compromises hes going to have to do now with Congress Related to to many of the immigration issues and this one is tied up in it. One, with those compromises and, two, the fact that the budget now, hes got a 1. 5, 1. 1 trillion deficit that will come from the tax cuts and building that wall will cost billions and having covered the campaign for the last two years, i think it will be very difficult for him to do in an Election Year that is already problematic. Yeah, hes going to have to find that funding. Matt, i want to turn now to one of the next big challenges for the president. The midterm elections and new reports about a heated meeting the president s top staff, but also his former Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski who sources tell abc news got into it with bill stepien. I think hes worried and he should be worried. Not a real staff problem but fundamental problem. As you know, tom, all president s in their first midterms with very few exceptions have huge problems with their party. This president has the lowest Approval Rating and you know from the data, lowest Approval Rating a president has ended the first year at going into christmas than any president has ever had. That and the fact that his party is disliked much more than the democrats sets up for a huge wave for the democrats and big problems for the republicans in both the house and senate in 2018. But he also has shown hes willing to get out and campaign hard for candidates he does like and endorse. Matthew dowd for us, thanks so much. Merry christmas. Now to that urgent search for a possible serial shooter suspected in at least ten driveby shootings in california in just the last month. Police say its a top priority to find whoever is responsible and our Senior National correspondent matt gutman is in california with the very latest on this investigation. Matt, this gunman is targeting people when traffic is at its heaviest. Reporter thats right, amy. Police say this mystery shooter has been stalking passing vehicles during the morning and evening commutes. Now, just imagine being in a car like this when it is slammed by gunfire. Right now police say that its just pure luck that nobody has been killed yet. Someone just shot my boss. Somebody shot your boss . Yes, maam. Reporter this morning authorities are desperately searching for a driver they say is terrorizing rural california. Randomly firing guns at passing vehicles. We are working very hard to find you. We will hold you responsible. Reporter ten cars have been hit in the past month alone around the fresno area. This map shows the density of the attacks, all occurring within this 12squaremile area. If this keeps going it will be a matter of time before we have a murder investigation. Reporter it was nearly that. Earlier this month one man calling 911 after his boss was struck in the chest with shrapnel while she was driving. My boss here got shot through her window in the car. Can you send an ambulance . Okay, did she get hit . Yes, shes bleeding. It is random, again, we only have one person so far that has been injured. Reporter police say there are two threads connecting the shootin shootings, noting that they have been mostly happening between morning or evening rush hour and many of the motorists say the shots have been coming from a dark colored pickup with oversized tires. A Common Thread in all the reports is that the victims say they heard loud bangs as another vehicle passed them going the opposite direction than the roadway. Reporter now the concern from police is not only a motorist might get shot but that gunfire slamming into the vehicle might cause that vehicle to lose control. Police say they have very little to go on right now. Theyre not even certain that that darkcolored pickup truck is the vehicle theyre looking for. Much less the identity of the person or people inside of it. Amy. Wow, so little to go on. So frightening. Matt, thank you so much. Tom. In california an update for the millions affected by wildfires out there. All significant evacuation orders have now been lifted and the worst appears to be over for the thomas fire which has become the second largest wildfire in state history burning more than 400 square miles and forcing 100,000 people to leave their homes. Firefighters finally gaining ground. Its now 65 contained and most people can thankfully return home for the holidays. Thats certainly a gift.
