No more 90s. A break from the heat is here today. Hi, sue. Good morning. An update for you on the situation over the Altamont Pass. It is only the right lane remains blocked at this point in time. They have cleared three left lanes. So a little better news with this two big rig accident with a fuel spill. It happened about 12 35 this morning. You can see traffic stacked up all the way to 205 for about an hour and 40 minute ride. Only the right lane remains blocked. Thats an update and improvement. Thats not expected to open until 8 00 a. M. Developing news in the south bay, authorities expected to release more information about the shooting at the gilroy garlic festival at 10 00 this morning. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield is live at the Festival Grounds to explain how this unfolded. Amy. Reporter good morning, reggie. Police are still here on the scene. Look behind me. You can see an officer with his spotlight turned on towards the woods. Theyre still looking for a possible second suspect. One gunman was shot dead by police. Here is cell phone video of the chaos taken at the festival as people ran for their lives. Shots were fired at about 5 41 yesterday. Three people were killed including a 6yearold boy and 12 people were hurt. Guns were not allowed at the festival, and security checked for weapons at the gate. The police chief described how the gunman snuck into the festival. It appears as though they had come into the festival via the creek which borders a parking area, and they used some sort of a tool to cut through the fence to be able to gain access through the secure fence line and thats how they got into the festival area itself. Witnesses told police there may have been a second suspect. Police say they dont know for sure, but theyre still looking. They dont know whether that person is armed. Police say the killer used an assaulttype rifle. They have not released any information, though, about the gunman at this time. No word on a possible motive. The police chief also said there were no surveillance cameras at the festival, so theyre asking for any witnesses with any information to come forward and share that information with police. Reporting live from gilroy, Amy Hollyfield, abc 7 news. Amy, thank you. Most heartbreaking at all, that a 6yearold boy lost his life yesterday during the shooting. Our Team Coverage continues with abc 7 News Reporter jobina fortson. Shes live outside the Santa Clara County Medical Center where his grandmother shared her grief overnight. Reporter Steven Romero is the name of the 6yearold boy killed yesterday. As you mentioned, his grandmother talked with reporters outside the hospital overnight. She described her grandson as a loving boy and says he was at the garlic festival with his mother and other grandmother. Maribel romero says her grandson was so loving. She was at home yesterday when she got a call from someone telling her her grandson had been shot. She said she went from hospital to hospital trying to find him. When she finally reached the right location, he had already died. Stevens mother and other grandmother were also shot at the garlic festival. She wants justice for her grandson and all of them. So far i know the shooter got my daughterinlaw through her stomach. I guess it passed through her side of the stomach and to the babys back. Im not sure. Grandma got shot through the leg or feet. Grandma hasnt been taken care of because theyre waiting for insurance. The ceo said they wanted to take care of that there are more than a dozen hospitalized victims right now from that shooting yesterday. According to a hospital spokesperson, their conditions range from critical to fair. Reporting in san jose this morning, jobina fortson, abc 7 news. A rock band named tinman was on stage performing when the shooting happened. Like many others, they thought the gunfire was fireworks until a band member spotted the shooter. They started shooting again in the direction of where all the food people were dining. I said, guys, off, we cleared the stage at that point and ducked under the stage so we wouldnt be visible. We could smell the gunpowder. You could hear the screams. It just was awful. From my perspective he was firing into the biggest bunch of people he could find. The band said they werent supposed to be on stage at that point. They were playing an encore. You heard from the band tinman. We have a map of the festival to give you an idea of where the shooting took place. Tinman was on the vineyard stage located right here. You heard from police earlier. They were talking about the fact that it looked like the gunman had come through a stream area and cut through a fence. So this is the stream, and we dont know exactly where the fence was. At some point they got near this area where the vineyard stage was. As you heard the band say, they could see the shooting happen from their van ttage point. Any witnesses at h rk a contact Gilroy Police. Were hearing from another man who was nearby when the shooting happened. He said it happened near a tent serving beer and food. I was sitting at the table in the front, right behind where the shooting started. It was almost 6 00, we looked back, it wasnt no fireworks. I guess somebody got shot and the crowd went crazy. Then we heard sounded like an ak, 9 millimeter, it was like three guns it sounded like. When we ran, we got to the ground. I didnt know the shooter was close to me. One of the ladies, mexican lady next to me got shot in the neck. He put a bunch of kids on the ground. A lady with babies on the ground. We tried to get upinrivds a the aid h could d was itnessed the panic and heard gunshots shared their experience on social media. Are you okay . A wounded man laid bleeding in the back of the white pickup truck shes in. These are some of the videos people shared with abc 7 news. They give you a sense of the confusion, the chaos as people were running away. Eight first many thought the sound was fireworks. We know at least a dozen people suffered injuries as the crowd rushed away. Some people literally running for their lives. Youre about to hear radio clatter between dispatchers, police and firefighters the moments of the first reports came in. County has been advised on the level two emergency. Officers and balances from throughout the county raced to the scene. So did air ambulances which transported many of the critically wounded to valley Medical Center. One witness says she watched as police took the shooter down. I seen him starting to take steps. Like i say, he looked like he was trying to load the clip up again, and thats when the cop shot him and he fell to the floor. They shot him two more times. There was a little counter and three people were hiding behind the counter and other people were laying on the floor so they couldnt get shot. She said despite being on the ground, she tried to look at his face in case she had to identify him later. The executive director of the gilroy garlic festival spoke about the shooting. He said its more than a fun event, it celebrates the community of gilroy. Gilroy is an amazing community, a tightly knit community. We are family. We have the wonderful opportunity in this community to celebrate our family through our garlic festival. And for over four decades that festival has been our annual family reunion. It is such a sad horribly upsetting circumstance that this happened on the third and final day of this years festival. He said seeing all their efforts end this way has been devastating. When we went through security, it was a very brief check of what was inside of our purses. I did mention i didnt see any metal detectors around me. Gilroy pd mentioned security had metal detecting wands. That didnt matter as they believe the shooter went through the creek and cut through a fence. Well have more on the shooting coming up. One of the teens in this photo according to police illegally blindfolded and handcuffed before being interrogated Officials Say the image was taken after 18yearold Gabe Natale Hjorth and 19yearold finnegan elder were taken into custody. Investigators say they confessed to being involved in an altercation over a stolen backpack that led to the fatal stabbing of the officer. Investigators say they found overwhelming evidence in the room including the supposed murder weapon, cleverly concealed behind one of the Ceiling Tiles as well as bloody clothing. In the north bay a stretch of lucas valley road remains closed because of an overturned tanker that spilled fuel onto a creekbed. This happened yesterday morning in marin county. The tanker was carrying 6,700 gallons of fuel. Police closed the road between west gate and valley drive. Officials say about 250 gallons were released into the dry creekbed. All the fuel has to be removed from the truck before it can be towed. Tsnd garages with more than king 100 parking spots to have electric vehicle charging equipment, and the other would change the maximum number of parking spots for garages not under ground.
