Weekend. Take a look, here are the numbers. Sfo officials tell me today 298 flight delays, 129 cancelations. Thats for both international and domestic arrivals and departures. Those numbers are already about 20 higher than yesterdays delays and cancelations. Take a look, because that all translates to this. People sleeping in lounge chairs and waiting in lines to beg gate agents for decent flights to muchneeded destinations. The arrivals and departure boards are full of cancelations and changing times. Now sfo said that they expected flight delays to average 30 to 45 minutes, but people are spoke to this afternoon say theyre dealing with delays between three and seven hours. We got delayed for our first flight. Then another notification, another notification. And turns out about four hours later, they said well rebook you on another flight. I tried changing destinations. They said that that wasnt possible. What are you going to do for seven hours . I have my phone. Im probably going to be netflixing. Hope you have a charger too. Yes, i have a charger too. I called american and they said that they had planned construction for the runway, and therefore a bunch of flights were delayed. But it does beg the question, it seems like this was planned a long time ago, so. Reporter why are there so many delays if everyone knew about the runway construction this month . Sfo seth they worked with airlines to reduce flights by 13 during the 28 days of runway closure. Sfo officials point out most of the flights are still on time, and theyre right. I did the math, added 1,300 daily flights. So far just about 70 are unaffected. Best to keep in task with your airline if you are flying between now and september 27th in or out of sfo because thats when this is suspected to be over. If you need to book travel between now and then, your best bet is to get a flight before 9 00 a. M. If you plan on flying British Airways, theres a chance your flight might not take off at all. The airline is preparing to cancel nearly all its flights tomorrow and tuesday due to a possible pilot strike. Contract talks have broken down leading to a possible walkout. The carrier operats about 850 flights daily. This would be British Airways first pilot strike since the 1970s and could cost the airline nearly 50 million a day. San francisco wants to be a power broker when it comes to electricity. Its looking to buy all of pg es power lines within the schedule and provide its own service to residents. The price tag is huge. Abc 7 News Reporter cornell bernard is live in San Francisco with details and what it means for customers. Reporter you know that power does not come cheap. The city is ready to offer more than 2 billion for pg es power grid here in San Francisco. All of these lines, thousands of them, some say the takeover could mean lower rates for customers. Other cities and counties have done it. This is not a radical thing. Reporter supervisor matt haynie is ready to dump pg e. He says the city will offer the utility 2. 5 billion for its power line system across the city and provide its own power to residents perhaps at a lower rate. This is an opportunity for us to own our own grid. Not have a private company have a monopoly on it. Reporter Revenue Bonds would pay for the purchase. The city is already providing electricity to thousands through the clean power sf program by purchasing Renewable Energy from sources and using pg es lines to get to it homes. If San Francisco takes over, that will be good. And if it lowers the rate, that will be much better. For people who have to have electricity and gas, they dont need to their money to go to shareholders and pg e. Reporter with pg e in bankruptcy, this may be an offer it cant refuse. Proceeds from the sale could help the utility pay victims of Deadly Northern California wildfires started by power lines. In a statement to abc 7 news, the company says pg e has been a part of San Francisco since the companys founding and while we dont believe municipalization is in the best interests of our customers and stakeholders, we are committed to working with the city. But not everyone like the takeover idea. The International Brotherhood of electrical workers, a union for some pg e employees, says the city has other priorities to deal with. Its website says this takeover will make San Francisco worse, not better, we take safety very seriously, we just dont trust the people who cant make the buses run on time and cant clean the streets. We likely havent heard the last from unions on this matter. Mayor and City Attorney leading the purchase offe eroffer, supe will vote later this month. If it goes through pg e would still provide gas service to customers. New developments with the two bay area teenagers accused of stabbing to death a Police Officer in rome, italy.
